According to Kershaw (2013), some of the techniques for individual leadership growth and development include the functional, situational and transformational approach.
The functional method explains that one can learn and develop themselves to become an excellent leader as discussed by Henriksen (2016). In this approach, a nurse needs to balance the requirements of the task, team, and the individual ones to achieve the desired results. By understanding these aspects, a caregiver can train oneself and acquire the desirable leadership qualities such as accountability and responsibility. Also, the technique requires that the nurse comprehends how their behavior as a leader impacts on others to help them know the way they are supposed to act.
On the other hand, the transformational approach focuses on having engagements with the followers to enhance one’s leadership skills.
