Besides their technical and clinical skills, nurses need other unique skills and attributes to carry out their duties effectively. These additional skills vary widely from effective verbal and written communication to leadership and teamwork, as explored in this paper.

Communication skills
Strong communication skills are the most significant characteristic of nursing professionalism. Nurses' roles and responsibilities depend on how effective they communicate with fellow health care practitioners, patients, and their families (CHOIet al.,2013). There are different forms of communication skills that are adopted by nurses. For instance, a genuine smile brings comfort and confidence to the patient knowing that the nurse cares about them.
Caring
Nurses are always the most common and accessible point of help for patients and families in vulnerable and scary moments of their lives.
Emotional stability
The nursing profession involves regular encounters with traumatic and painful circumstances. Nurses' ability to come to terms with death and suffering without allowing it to get personal is vital.
