The Affordable Care Act (ACA) reinstates consumers’ freedom to be in charge of the own health care (HHS.Gov/HealthCare, 2014). The act has introduced some new guidelines on how insurance companies should extend their health coverage on the citizens of America. For instance, consumers are protected from ability of insurers to cancel coverage because of a honest mistake done by the insured. There is also no lifetime limits on coverage, and insurers can no longer increase their rates as they wish. Consumers are also protected in that they can choose their preferred doctors besides enjoying equity in the healthcare provisions (HHS.Gov/HealthCare, 2014). As the act gives consumers the flexibility and security to make informed choices, concerning their health care, new types of payers and integrated delivery system (IDSs) are faced with various challenges and opportunities in their facilitating health care in the country.
