In their study titled “Delirium: Why are nurses confused?” , Baker, Taggart, Nivens, and Tillman (2015) conducted a literature review on studies that provided primary data on nurses’ delirium, acute confusion, knowledge, and/or recognition. One of the studies in their literature review was by Hare and Colleagues (2008). This study investigated nurses’ knowledge of delirium and delirium risk factors in a hospital setting. While 1,097 nurses were issued with questionnaires, only 338 responded. Approximately 81.9% of those who responded scored more than average on the questions of their knowledge on delirium while only 36.3% of them had an above-average score on the questions concerning delirium risk factors. Also, this study revealed that nurses who had participated in a delirium education intervention scored better than their counterparts who had not gone through a delirium education program before the study.
