1 Describe the inflammatory process and discuss why this is important for you as a dental hygienist to understand. Pick one inflammatory condition that might directly effect your dental hygiene treatment. Describe the condition and how you would modify treatment for a patient with this condition.
1 Understanding the inflammatory process of the teeth and gums is important for any dental hygienist. It allows him to be able to know the risks or extent of the damage and act in order to treat it as soon as possible. Accordingly, the inflammatory process usually starts in the dental pulp and gradually goes to the periapical area of the teeth. This is the area of the mouth that is near at the base (or root) of the teeth. The reason why this is the usual progression of the inflammatory process is because the root is the only route that connects both anatomical sites. However, in cases when there is a presence of lateral or accessory canals, then the inflammatory process could progress from the pulp towards the lateral areas of the roots.
