Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are mental and medical providers who demonstrate genuine care to patients, families, and communities. Jean Watson's theory of human caring can be employed to orient new graduate APRNs to ensure they practice patient-centered care. The nurse needs to provide care that includes caring actions, commitment to the caring process, values, as well as the commitment to reducing the patient's vulnerability via compassionate patient-centered care (Alikari et al., 2023). Formal orientation is crucial in increasing self-confidence and fostering patient-care resources (Lambert, 2020). Patient-centered care entails providing care responsively and respectfully anchored on the patient's preferences, value systems and wants (Kuipers et al., 2019). Watson's theory informs the new graduate APRN's clinical decisions and treatment recommendations to ensure they consider and respect patients' values, belief systems, and preferences (Alikari et al., 2023). With respect to self-confidence, Watson's theory will ensure the new graduate APRN will be authentically present to respect and honor deep values and the subjective life of others and self (Alharbi & Baker, 2020).
