Psychotherapy of a Mother
A mother has mental disorders due to the emotional torture resulting from the numerous fights with the husband. She has two daughters who are as well mentally disturbed since their father beats up the mother almost every day. The husband blames her for not having full responsibility for the activities at home. Besides, she fears being thrown out of the house, yet she is jobless. In addition, she has numerous scars all over her body, given the countless number of times beaten, she is not on any prescribed medication.
Using DSM-5 To Justify the Diagnosis
According to Paddock (2019), the lady is suffering from trauma and mental disorders. The diagnosis is made based on the countless times she is beaten by the husband. She is always depressed and thinking about what would come up when the husband chases her out of the house. In summary, she meets the mental and depression disorder, which elaborates more using DSM-5 that supports the diagnosis made.
Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Applying the cognitive behavioral therapy will be useful to this client since it deals with improving the well-being of the patient concerning mental and physical health issues (Fordham, Sugavanam, Hopewell, Hemming, Howick, Kirtley, Nair, Hamer-Hunt & Lamb, 2018). When cognitive behavioral therapy is used, it deals with the harmful effects of the torture and finds ways of helping out the client become better. There is a reduction of depression and the quality of life of the client after a few months of following up (Krebs, Cruz, Heyman, Turner, Veale & Matiax-Cols (2017).
