What was it like to complete your tasks with the selected impairments?
For this assignment, I intended to simulate the hearing impairment and diminished sense of smell. For the hearing loss simulation, I put on ear plugs then asked my mother to give me instructions on how to prepare an omelet. Even though she was practically shouting the instructions, I ended up mixing up everything, and the omelet came out burned. For the diminished sense of smell and taste simulation, I divided a cotton ball and inserted it into each nostril. I then walked into a McDonalds and ordered my favorite hamburger. However, I was surprised to note that the same thing that I have enjoyed for a long time now had an entirely different taste since I could not smell it as is usually the case.
What were the difficulties that you encountered while completing your tasks? Were any of those difficulties unexpected?
While completing this assignment, I realized that I could not coordinate some of the simple things that I have learned to do over the years. For example, while cooking the omelet, it ended up burning since it was impossible for me to hear the sound that the cooking fat was making in the pan while I was in the middle of doing something else. This meant that I had to watch the pan constantly to monitor the progress as it was now diff...
