Healthcare facilities are entitled to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Barriers in management interrupt the smooth operational processes in hospitals. The paper focuses on the roles of Mount Sinai Hospital’s healthcare workers in barrier management during periods of increased facility security and two potential solutions to protecting patients, visitors, and staff.
Despite the unpredictability of disasters, healthcare workers should be in the frontline to eliminate barrier management during periods of increased facility security. On that note, their primary role is to plan and prepare so that they can know how to help victims who have been injured or exposed to biohazards (Kirkpatrick, 2015). These healthcare professionals should communicate with each other and other stakeholders to ensure that they provide quality medical services. However, when offering healthcare services, they should be keen on recording patients’ profiles to avoid cases of admitting people with ill motives.
Healthcare workers should identify and maintain various barriers, such as chemical, human factors, biological, and physical hazards. They should determine the hazard to know incident outcomes that are likely to influence the hospital operations. When it comes to vulnerability analysis, it identifies the individual most likely to be affected (Hendrickx et al., 2016). In addition, healthcare professionals should ensure that there is good lighting, ventilation, and interventions for individuals who might cause disturbances within the facility.
