The qualities and characteristics of an effective school-age caregiver encompass all aspects that make the caregiving exercise effective and also enjoyable for both the caregiver and the kid. They include enjoying the company of school-age children, relating well to them, having information on kid development and working cooperatively. They also include encouraging independence while setting limits, effective communication and critical thinking abilities. These include having different interests, serving as a positive good example or role model, taking part in outdoor activities, caring about families, and having knowledge on the obligations of a caregiver. These qualities are essential for effective caregiving and teaching.

Morality refers to a set of principles and values that guide the conduct of an individual or institution and ethical decision-making. In a school setup, it personalizes the distinct aspects of a holistic educational and developmental setup. With regards to school-age caregivers, having good morals is key since it helps ensure moral and responsible treatment of kids. It encourages a safe and nurturing environment while also helping the caregiver to be a good role model to kids (Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment a Position Statement of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, n.d.). Essentially, it acts as the compass for all the parties involved.
