Parent Handout of Language development and literacy learning of young children.

Coursework Instructions:

Early Childhood Education
Topic: Language development and literacy learning of young children.
Prompt:
Step #1: Read the PDF Article titled “Early literacy and comprehension skills in children learning English as an additional language and monolingual children with language weaknesses” by Claudine Bowyer-Crane, Silke Fricke, Blanca Schaefer, Arne Lervag, and Charles Hulme.
Step #2: Read the PDF article titled “The Home Literacy Environment Is a Correlate, but Perhaps Not a Cause, of Variations in Children’s Language and Literacy Development” by Marina L. Puglisi, Charles Hulme, Lorna G. Hamilton, and Margaret J. Snowling.
Step #3: Now, after reading the two articles you will summarize both the articles with a summary of the main points of the articles and create a one-page handout which will be designed as if you would were going to distributed it to parents in a classroom.
Note #1: You can create your handout on Microsoft Word.
Note #2: The following is an example so you can have an idea of what to do…
Example: Look and view through the Microsoft word file titled “Parent Handout Assignment example”. There you can see how someone used colorful graphics to create her handout.
Make sure to create a handout that has colorful graphics that are visibly appealing to parents. Don't just create a black and white handout with just only words because that won't catch the parent's attention.
Step #4: Make sure the handout you create should be a “parent friendly” summary of the articles and ways for parents to use this information with their child and other children. Therefore, be creative with your handout in that it stands out with both colorful designs and content of information that you summarized of the articles that you want the parents to know.
Step #5: Remember as you create your one page handout and as you write information based on the articles make sure to cite the two articles within your handout. For example, if you paraphrase or use quotes within your handout about each of the both articles then make sure to cite them properly within your handout by writing the authors last name and year in APA 7 format.
Step #6: Have a reference page in APA 7 format. Remember your two references for this assignment are the two articles previously mentioned in Step #1 and Step #2.
