Image of Child Belief Statement. Education Coursework

Coursework Instructions:

Early Childhood Education Prompt:
Step #1: Read the following passage:
“There are hundreds of different images of the child. Each one of you has inside yourself an image of the child that directs you as you begin to relate to a child. This theory within you pushes you to behave in certain ways; it orients you as you talk to the child, listen to the child, observe the child. It is very difficult for you to act contrary to this internal image”
- written by Loris Mallaguzzi
Step #2: Read the PDF article “Your Image of the Child: Where Teaching Begins” by Loris Mallaguzzi
https://www(dot)reggioalliance(dot)org/downloads/malaguzzi:ccie:1994.pdf
Step #3: Now that you read the article above now write your “image of the child’ belief statement” in at least 2 paragraphs. For example explain your image of a child theory in regards to the article.
Step #4: Read the Introduction pages 1 through 3 and then Chapter 1 of the book called “The Unscripted Classroom: Emergent Curriculum in Action” by Susan Stacey.
Step #5: Read through Chapter 2 of the book called “The Unscripted Classroom: Emergent Curriculum in Action” by Susan Stacey.
Step #6: Read through Chapter 3 of the book called “The Unscripted Classroom: Emergent Curriculum in Action” by Susan Stacey.
Step #7: Now after you read Chapters 1 through Chapter 3 answer the following two questions:
Question #1: As an early head start teacher, in what ways does the reading relate to your particular focus and interests?
Question #2: How do the readings of the Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 inform/inspire your understanding of emergent curriculum?
Step #8: Now that you have completed the previous 7 steps now I want you to come up and post two questions of your own for our upcoming virtual class discussion. Your two questions can be anything about what you just read about in the article Loris Mallaguzzi or the Chapter 1 or Chapter 2 or Chapter 3 of the book “The Unscripted Classroom: Emergent Curriculum in Action” by Susan Stacey. When you type in your two questions make sure to bold them out.

The preconception of an image of a child affects your ability to build a relationship with the child (Malaguzzi, 1994). For me, the children should be exposed to an environment that responds to their needs because it is important in improving their capabilities. I believe that children don’t have the same learning speed and ability because each child responds to a certain learning approach. The education system should be flexible enough to address the strengths and weaknesses of a child through consistent observation and support. This way we can help children to boost their creativity in maximizing their strengths and improving their weaknesses. However, children also have a predefined notion of reality that affects their ability to participate in school activities (Malaguzzi, 1994). Children wouldn’t readily accept to change their environment from home to school. Therefore, the school should foster the development of enjoyable relationships with their classmates and peers so that the children are more willing to accept another version of reality outside their family.
Although the school environment is an important institution to guide the children, the continuous support of the adults, including the teachers and parents, is equally important in nurturing a child (Malaguzzi, 1994). A child is moldable and we should shape them to have positive values. A child’s response towards an adult significantly affects their ability to respond to their environment. I believe that adults are role models for a child’s behavior. Adults should be supportive and open-minded in the educational growth of their children. Teachers, specifically, should uphold a degree of intellectual integrity that children can follow to recognize good values to empower the children. With this appr...
