Social connectedness remains an integral component of human health and wellbeing. It helps in emotional regulation, increases self-esteem and empathy, improves emotions, and enhances the immune system. Optimism/perspective enables people to see the world, people, and occurrences in the most positive ways possible. Because of optimism, people feel they are developed higher self-esteem and get to be in control of the situation. The Family Service initiative ensured that grandmothers and teenage grandchildren accessed social connectedness and optimism amid housing challenges. For example, social connectedness was important in lowering anxiety and depression in the family. Secondly, social connectedness and optimism were vital in developing higher self-esteem. The power of social connectedness, especially among social workers, triggered empathy, the precursor of trust and belongingness. This feeling made it hard for the child protective investigator to turn a blind eye to the suffering of the FSI family.
