A wide release is a film that is playing nationally. The movie is one of the spectacular works of the legendary film maker Spike Lee and it is a real life story of an American hero. It’s the early 1970s, and Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. A platform release is a type of limited release in which a film opens in fewer theatres (typically 599 or fewer) than a wide release. Example of platform release in 2018 was If Beale Street Could Talk. It was distributed by Annapurna Pictures. The movie is set in the 1970s in Harlem where a daughter and wife-to-be Tish vividly recalls the passion, respect and trust that have connected her and her artist fiancé Alonzo Hunt, who goes by the nickname Fonny. Based on a James Baldwin novel, “If Beale Street Could Talk” chronicles Tish and Fonny, a young black couple in 1970s Harlem. Tish discovers she is pregnant, but the couple becomes separated when Fonny goes to jail after being falsely accused of rape (Fang 2018).Friends since childhood, the devoted couple dream of a future together, but their plans are derailed when Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit.
