A professional is someone who is educated and trained in a certain field and he/she is paid a salary to provide services (Koneru, 2008).
A good example of plagiarism occurred in May 2014, when an editor, Gumuchian, working for the CNN was accused of plagiarizing over 128 times in some 50 stories. The issue led to her firing and some of her edited stories with plagiarism being deleted from the company’s website (Wemple, 2014). According to CNN, most of the plagiarized material came from her previous employer, Reuters. This was unethical business practice that had a major impact in tarnishing the reputation and credibility of the editor and the company as well.
Social media has become vital in terms communication (Liu, Horsley, & Levenshus, 2010). Today, blogs are one of the common social media platforms used by professionals to spread information on their areas of expertise. Blogs are also widely used to market products. For example, fashion bloggers showcase the current trends on their blogs to advertise to the market. On the other hand, social bloggers write about current affairs and this keeps professionals relevant and updated.
1a) Spreadsheets are used in varied ways within business contexts. Spreadsheets can be used in the accounts department (Berry & Jarvis, 1991). This is because it can have formulas used finance. Storing data is also one of its major roles.
1b) A spreadsheet application would greatly assist a small business owner, as he would be able to store all his data from when the business was small and as it grows.
2a) As outlined in the article by King et al. (2013), Spreadsheets have many advantages like making calculations easy especially in statistics and good presentation of the work; one can make notes explaining each calculation. Besides, the formulas used in spreadsheets eliminate the need for highly educated employees thus reducing the costs of operation. Another benefit is that spreadsheets can easily connect to databases to populate reference fields thus making the retrieval of information easy.
A disadvantage of spreadsheets may be in the form of the competition between specialist skilled employees and cheap unskilled labor, where specialist employees are becoming irrelevant in the employment market because spreadsheets can be used by unprofessional workers to do the jobs that could have been done by professional workers. Another disadvantage is that individuals can easily hoard data if each PC is installed with a spreadsheet, which may lead to duplication of information and effort. This can be a wastage of time and resources.
