Airline Certification Process
According to Title 49 of the United States code there are two separate authorizations anyone interested in providing air transportation services has to obtain. Air Carrier Certificate and Operations on safety authority is obtained from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Economic authority is the second certification obtained from the Secretary of Transportation department. The authority is in form of certificate for interstate that is issued under section 41102 of the Statute. The certificates are issued after findings by the transportation department on the suitability of the company to carry out the proposed service. Foreign authority certificates are awarded after being consistent with the public convenience and necessity (Air carrier fitness division, 2005).
The applicants have to file applications for the certifications accompanied by filling fees depending on the category of certification. Support documents are also provided to show that the applicant is fit, willing and able to operate.
