DESCRIBE HOW MARKETING STRATEGIES HAVE CHANGED SINCE DEREGULATION
Deregulation is a phenomenon wherein a government signals its intention to leave the market economy to the existing market forces and not constrain it and stifle it with myriad rules, restrictions, and laws. Alternatively stated, deregulation means that the government will not interfere with businesses in a daily manner and act only when complaints against businesses are presented before them. Since deregulation, marketing strategies have significantly changed. First, businesses are left to themselves to determine their strategic imperatives and operational processes without government interference (Kotabe, 1998). This means they can expand into newer regions and territories, acquire land and other fixed assets without long and tiresome processes, set prices according to supply and demand, launch new products, and directly interface and interact with customers without the state setting the action plan or the agenda.
