Emerging Leadership: Sir Richard Branson

Coursework Instructions:

Organize your assignments with clear headings to identify subsections as appropriate. For example, depending on the assignment, headings might include: introduction, workplace context, key players, personal reactions, analysis of related readings. Feel free to be creative with your titles! For example, instead of “Introduction,” you may choose to call the section “How I got from there to here.” You might decide to head your sections with quotations (appropriately referenced) from different authors. Use your imagination to paint the picture for the reader.
Double-space your work to improve readability.
Ensure that your work is clearly written, spell-checked, and grammatically correct.
Reference all quotations appropriately (author, date, title, publisher, page number) and where possible provide a web URL to the content or original web reference.

Emerging leadership Name Institution Emerging leadership Growing up I have always admired Sir Richard Branson the Virgin group COO and owner. One of the most influential leaders in the world his style was and is still mostly involves breaking the rules. He is at one point quoted saying he never learns the rules in the first place. In his company, there is a culture of do not sweat it rules were meant to be broken. In my earlier days, the statement made sense since he was successful, but as I furthered my studies and with experience, the statement is somehow misleading as not every leader will break the rules and managed to be successful especially when the organization is not your own. There are more products in the market today than before, consumers have more variety to choose from, and the markets have become more competitive than ever hence leadership at every point today needs a leader who is transformational besides other characters. In my new organization, my immediate supervisor Ephraim realize this and allows us to engage in innovativeness as well as critically think on our own as we make decisions together. However, the next superior Diana above our supervisors does not recognize this, and she keeps on micromanaging the team limiting the whole department and going in a different direction. Working under Ephraim gives me great pressure, and I see a lot of Richard Brandson qualities in him. One of his favorite quotes, especially when we work on a project is that "as we wait for them to make the right decision the rest of the world is moving forward." Ephraim, a very jovial gentleman in his early forties, encourages innovativeness and observes that when one is shown the right direction and given the end goals to meet it does not matter how the individual gets there as long as the organizational goals are met. He, however, insists on work ethics and equality in his practice. According to Kirson (2019), there is evidence that leadership and enthusiasm emerge when the expected leaders are given a fair chance. This year, each of our team has been given a project and mine is so...
