Eco Water Inc. is a company owned by Manish Krishna that sells a product meant to purify tap water. The product is known as the PURITY II Naturalizer Water Unit, and is manufactured by a corporation called Environmental Control Inc. A single unit is made up of a sediment removal cartridge, carbon and sediment filters, housings and faucets, and mounting hardware. Eco distributes the product across the Texas gulf coast region consisting of 13 counties. The company is currently using a telemarketing strategy to market its products. Krishna needs to adopt a print and electronic media marketing approach if he is to increase sales and profitability.
The current marketing strategy applied by Manish Krishna for Eco Water involves telemarketing and sales. This strategy involves contacting and making deals for potential customers over the telephone. The company employs college students on a part time basis whose job is to make calls to search for customers. They also organize appointments for Eco’s team of six salespeople to demonstrate units in consumers’ homes. The strategy includes outbound telemarketing whereby potential customers are actively reached out via outgoing calls. It also involves inbound telemarketing whereby incoming inquiries are made concerning the product as prompted by sales or advertising efforts.
While Krishna’s strategy has been effective so far, there is need for him to reconsider it due to the seemingly intrusive nature of telemarketing. It is among the most divisive marketing strategies in the modern business environment since many companies are known to use unethical or seemingly irritating practices. A notably irritating practice is referred to as ‘robo-calling’ whereby pre-recorded messages are delivered to people’s telephone numbers via an automatic dialing machine. Also, there have been reports of fraud and scams orchestrated over the telephone. While Eco Water Inc. does not engage in any of such practices, government regulations meant to keep telemarketing in check are likely to prevent customers from reaching many potential customers.
The United States has a DNC (do not call) registry that give people a choice on whether they can receive telemarketing calls at their homes. It is managed and enforced by the FTC (federal trade commission) together with state and various local law enforcement staff. People whose telephone numbers are in the DNC database can file a formal complaint in case they get calls from telemarketers; something that can attract stiff sanctions and fines for the company. Eco Water Inc. risks such punishment if it continues with its telemarketing strategy, while also missing out on potential customers.
Krishna needs to adopt a print and electronic media marketing strategy. Eco Water Inc. and its sales team get substantial promotion backing from Environmental Control Inc.
