Learning Activity #1
Step 1 First Impression:
The general managers initial reaction would not be to fire Jessica and as an absolute last resort he would put her on probation. Nonetheless the manager will probably find probation unnecessary as there are ways to go about this situation without administrative actions just yet. However, going forward changes must be made and success must come on quickly if Jessica wants to retain her position. As for the head chef, the general manager would be reprimanding him for being out of line. As a professional working in a gentleman’s club he expects the chef to conduct himself like a gentleman and not use his clout as a weapon to get what he wants.
Step 2 Personality factors:
The test results came back as ISTJ. The specifics of his typology were 19% introvert, 3% sensing, 44% thinking, and 1% judging. Being an introvert dominated person the manager is less engaging with his subordinates than Jessica now tends to be with hers. He often relies on intuition to make his decisions which he feels is a benefit, over reasoning and weighing the possibilities. Its slightly contradictory to the last the last statement the manager prefers thinking about major decisions rather than going by his emotions. He usually likes when a formal plan is laid out and executed with contingencies noted. Perhaps his most outstanding trait as a leader is his ability to look at things logically and without judgment. He only believes what his eyes tell him at face value and doesn’t let his mind assume from that point beyond.
As for Jessica her personality seems recently changed from its previous ways. In the past she was very introverted in that she never wanted to engage with her coworkers and didn’t share details of her personal life. Perhaps this was from her being a woman in an all male establishment. But since coming into her new position she definitely is more extroverted because she is now micromanaging the people she runs, even earning her the nickname, “iron drawers.” It must be noted that personality is a crucial factor in a person’s decision-making CITATION Lar17 \l 1033 (Larson, 2017). Thus, any changes in her own personality could also mean a change in the way that she would deal with things at work. When it comes to decision making it seems like a classic case of good initiative, bad judgement. Jessica realized she is managing a group of men, some of which are more senior to her, so she changes her timid leadership style to something she imagined would resemble a man. Because she is a woman she probably cant go about doing things as a man would and even if she could it would be awkward for everyone since she is a woman. Instead she should read books on great leaders or consider formal training.
The manager would take time to consider Jessica’s situation and seniority and come to the logical conclusion that she become more aware of how she is perceived. She should take advantage of the opportunity to learn from some of the more wise people she commands, such as the chef. As Tywin Lannister said in Game of Thrones, “A wise young king listens to his counsole and heeds their advice until he comes ...
