New Spain: Looking Through the Evidences of Globalization During the Early Modern Times

Introduction
Historical evidences reveal that the modern-day cultures of existing countries may be rooted in their influences with one another. Intercultural relationships in the past help mold what seems to be observed as the present time identity of several countries around the globe. This is observable as a historical fact evidenced by several art collections that are, up until the present day era, kept in security. A collection of artworks found in The Franz Mayer Museum may illustrate intercultural impacts and how these influences may have allowed the world to see the current identity of Mexico. This paper aims to illustrate the cultural impact of past international relations and how globalization originated from such intercultural influences. Several pieces of art from the Franz Mayer Museum were analyzed based on the location of origin and the artwork patterns. The Start of Globalization

Globalization has already existed during the early modern era. This is most likely be due to the trade of commodities from one region to another. Taking New Spain as an example, several goods from different parts of the world are being imported within that colonial region. This is further supported by several pieces of art that are found in The Franz Mayer Museum. It has been seen that there has been an existing mixing of ideas from different regions of the world producing particular crafts that may have been originated abroad or even locally. Certain artworks found in the said museum even involve intricate artistic patterns and designs that are inspired by the culture and artistic patterns of other nations, including China and The Philippines. There is an intercontinental relationship that has already existed between Asia, Europe, and the Americas as early as the early modern era. One particular example of an artwork found in The Franz Mayer Museum is the art showing a portrait of an Indian Lady, Daughter of a Cacique (number 7). This piece of artwork has originated from New Spain, and it shows that a woman is wearing an apparel and with certain accessories that are all inspired by a mixture of European and Asian cultures. This portrait may illustrate that the existing culture of the previous America before the colonial times, has been shaped into a different way due to the influences of other global regions, particularly from the European and Asian races.
