Deviance, in both legal and sociological contexts, describes actions and behaviors that violate informal social norms or formally-enacted rules. One such kind of violation includes heterosexual deviance. Sexual behavior is considered normative behavior. Society classifies a sexual act as deviant based on norms and expectations surroundings such as sexual behavior. The determination of whether a given sexual act is deviant or not depends on a range of factors, which includes religion, cultures, and individual perceptions and attitudes.
