Registered nurses have a responsibility to provide patients with secure, proficient and ethical care even during an emergency though the obligations have a boundary, since the duty to provide care is not absolute and is constrained by various factors. The nurses have specialized knowledge, skills and training and thus, the society has expectations for the nurses to meet specific standards when providing care (College of Registered Nurses). There is a strong social contact between health care provider and the society, making it reasonable for the public to expect that the registered nurses responds to patients diseases.
Healthcare professional are provided with guidelines and information that directs them in making informed decisions with respect to specific practice scenario. The guidelines enhance professional judgment and flexible decision making in healthcare practice (CARNA).
