Apart from the general strategies that can be implemented on any person suffering from stroke, there were some specific issues that RN would incorporate into a plan of care. The coping measures are generally used in assessing and mediating the behavior between a stressor and the physical or psychological outcome of a given individual. One of the teachings that RN would incorporate into a plan of care is eating and swallowing. There is usually difficulty in swallowing which happens because the brain doesn`t activate muscle reflexes at the back of the throat quickly enough thus making food and other fluids to go down the throat the wrong way. Changes to diet can be practiced to ensure that the patient is able to recover well. Stroke patients are not readily available for teaching. Therefore it is very important for the caregiver to ensure that the patient is ready for teaching before any form of teaching is practiced on the patient.
