Corticosteroid use and Cushing’s syndrome Name: Institution: Date: It is important to inform patients that though corticosteroids are useful in reducing inflammation caused by many diseases, they do have side effects including leading to emergence of Cushing’s syndrome, but nurses should propose the possible ways through which to decrease side effects. Similarly, corticosteroids also lower the activity of the body’s defense system. One of the factors to take into account for patients is that the medication works best when administered where the body requires treatment. Similarly, patients should stick with the recommended dosage, as high dosages increase the risks of side effects. At times, patients may not adhere to the prescribed medication, and Cushing’s syndrome has the effect of changing a patient’s mental functions.
