On 16th February 1998, Airbus 300-600R carrying 14 crew members and 182 passengers crashed on the north of Chiang Kai-Shek Airport, Taoyuan in Taiwan. All the 196 people on board and the other 6 on the ground perished in this accident. The body remains of 202 victims were distributed over a place of about 2 square kilometers (Hsu et al., 1999). The paper focuses on Hsu et al.’s “Identification of Victims of the 1998 Taoyuan Airbus Crash Accident Using DNA Analysis.”
The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) analysis was used to identify the fragmented human remains collected from the wreckage. Approximately 685 human tissues were gathered from the crash site and sent to the forensic laboratories of the Investigation Bureau and Central Police University, Criminal Investigation Bureau, and Taiwan Province Police Administration for DNA testing and analysis (Hsu et al., 1999).
