“We can only deduce, also, the motivations for “Nick’s” engineering of her escape. We can assume that once her companion Ofglen’s association with Mayday had been discovered” (Atwood 373). Nick disregarded the strict Gilead regime and was willing to risk it all to subvert the system, which surprised Offred, and in the end helped Offred to escape. Ofglen who is Offred’s fellow handmaid and shopping partner influences Offred to change her ways to be more proactive to overthrow the government by concealing her intentions to everyone.
