What were business considerations that led VLF to decide on ERP adoption? Were these operational issues, management issues or strategic issues?
Valle Del Lilli’s consideration of adopting ERP was based on operational issues. The initial process for a patient to be attended to at the hospital required them to pass through several individuals. This required coordination between the patient care and administrative personnel and an overview of the patient’s medical records. Adopting the system eliminated the issues of time wastage since some of the patient’s records were delayed and confusions when it comes to administering drugs. Moreover, ERP helped the hospital keep track of their billing and keep track of their costs.

SAP was a good choice for VLF, but it was not the best. SAP is an effective ERP system, especially for hospitals and other facilities due to its patient-centric environment and ability to offer the hospital administration, real-time access to data. However, the features by SAP were unable to satisfy the requirements of the hospital at every level fully. Instead, the hospital should have considered other options such as NetSuite ERP that has more features and tools, including allowing the hospital to actively react to regulatory changes which were a concern for the company at the legislative level.
What is specific to SAP implementation in a hospital? In a Colombian setting?
The implementation of SAP requires the Colombian hospital to communicate the change, provide training, and establish a contingency plan. Communication is vital in gaining the support of the hospital staff. Training helps the staff and other stakeholders to understand the new system to avoid future misunderstandings and a contingency plan that is useful in eliminating delays.
