General Motors for a while has been struggling to reestablish itself in a market where the competition is quite steep (General Motors Company). It is for this reason among others that the company is devising a number of strategies to ensure that they are able to stay ahead of the competition while trying to develop the best products in the market in the most profitable ventures (General Motors Company). One of the areas that the company is seen to take much interest in is with reference to research and development. This is a department that determines the growth of a company and especially in light of the current developments in the industry. One of the aspects that is indicative of the strategy is the fact that, over the last few years the company has been increasing the level of financial support towards the same. In the year 2014, the company allocated $7.4 billion dollars to the research and development department; this was later raised to $7.5 in the year that followed. In 2016, the company raised the same to $8.1 billion dollars. The leap from 2015 and 2016, is indicative of the trend in the industry (General Motors Company).
