Flat screen industry has been a dynamic industry that has experience technological changes. The initial was old- the migration pushed styled television which was operating on cathode ray tube, its transition to the latest technology from analog to digital. This migration defined an industry that became aggressive in technology advancement; with the first production bringing in liquid crystal display, which was ousted by light-emitting diodes which is also facing being exited by the organic light emitting diodes. The large flat screen have seasonal peaks and record a high during the prestigious sporting event- world cup. These factors have led to the industry producing affordable product, because of the reduction in cost production and rise in income. However, industry players are not making money.
The competitive analysis of this industry varies across geographic markets, though globally Samsung takes the lead of the industry. Companies that gained entry and took the edge of a certain percentage have attributed to cost-effective production as part of its strategy. The industry has a high entry barrier as a new plant requires enormous capital investment to gain market share, and also locating of critical raw material supplier especially the screen. Manufactures of the flat screen have also taken the route of differentiation as part of their strategy; Major players have emphasized 3D, and this, in turn, gave rise to different types of 3D intending to raise competitive advantage.
