Richard’s actions were serious since he collaborated with other executives at Computer Associates to manipulate the quarterly earnings so that they can portray a boost in earnings. These misleading accounting practices were in line with the market expectations of the company and incorporated in its financial reports, contrary to the GAAP principles.
