Report on Interviews for Accident or Incident. Psychology Case Study
his scenario focuses on the group home disabled client abuse case discussed in prior modules.
You are an administrator with a group home which cares for developmentally delayed and physically disabled male adults. You receive a report that a resident appears to have been struck by someone on the night shift and has suffered physical injury.
Upon arriving at the home, you meet Adam. Adam is a 27-year-old male who is physically disabled and confined to a wheelchair. He has also been diagnosed with moderate-severe mental retardation. He lives in a group home with 5 other mentally disabled male residents.
Although Adam is developmentally delayed, his ability to communicate is fairly good. His speech is slow and often slurred, but over time, his caretakers have learned to understand his words very well.
When the morning staff arrived for work and went to get Adam ready for his day, they observed some rather large bruises on Adam’s legs and back. When they asked Adam what happened, they report he told them, “Mike hit me.” "Mike" is the night time caretaker at the residence.
You have interviewed Adam and Mike and have very different versions of what happened. Review the material on interviewing cognitively disabled individuals. What concerns would you have about Adam's testimony? What hypotheses would you have about the reasons for his story? What questions, if any, would you want to ask of the staff? Of Adam?
Now turn to your interview of Mike. What have you learned about his view of the situation? What explanation do you have for any discrepancies you have found. Use any other helpful theory and concepts in your discussion that is important to your scenario such as memory theory or Root Cause Analysis.
Make a preliminary report and recommendation.
I will upload my interviews.

Reports on Interviews For Adam’s Accident
Although Adams suffers from moderate-severe mental retardation, he can communicate well. The interview between the homegroup administrator and Adam portrays the victim’s side of the story. In particular, Adam’s testimony appears to be true. He is confident to report that Mike, a night shift caretaker, attacked him and that he has witnesses who can back him up. The administrator should have asked Adam the reason for the disagreement that caused the accident, which would have proved whether what the victim alleged was true or false. The hypothesis about Adam’s testimony is that he does not like Mike attending to his physical needs. Besides, the administrator should have asked Adam whether he would like an apology from the caretaker and if he would be comfortable being attended by him in the future. For Mike, the most significant question would be to explain how Adam was hit by the bed. Consequently, it should be clear what caused Ad...
