Question One
* Supply chain visibility increases a company’s ability to gather and process large amounts of information (Silva, Ferreira, Silva, Magalhaes, & Neto, 2017)
* This information allows a company to understand product movement.
* As a result, companies can balance their demand and supply levels and prevent supply chain disruptions, mostly by building sustainable and resilient supply chains.
* Then, companies can be able to increase sales and revenues while reducing costs in the supply chain.
* For instance, supply chain visibility allowed Safeway to use data, with the help of Deloitte’s HIVE, to understand stock movement, stock-outs, and address the stock-outs on time.
Question Two
* Excel-based analytics at Safeway limited supply chain visibility.
* As indicated in the case study, Safeway could not process the information on specific brands to identify trends.
* Also, it could not process enough data of the Universal Product Code (UPC) to understand product movement and stock-outs.
* To identify trends for specific brands, Safeway would need large amounts of data, which could not be presented or processed in excel.
