The case study herein restricts its focus on the transformation of Insurance Product Services (IPS): one of the departments of Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) to a team-based organization from its traditional structural model. Additionally, this case provides substantial information about the company’s preparation and execution of AIPS’ planned transformation. During the change, the organization needed to establish and organize human resource management practices, organizational structure, integration of strategy, among other relevant systems and criteria within IPS and AAL at large.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans purchase different types of insurance products and services on a day-to-day basis. Some of the vital centers which serve as sources for these insurance products and services include commercial insurers such as Prudential and Met Life as well as from fraternal benefit associations like Knights of Columbus and Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) (Buller & Schuler, 2006). More than two hundred intimate benefit associations, as opposed to commercial insurers, which are free from certain taxations, provide different member services, good works, financial products, and social services. Aid Association for Lutherans is one of the companies that came into existence at the turn of the century with the sole purpose of offering insurance services to the ten working-class individuals (Buller & Schuler, 2006). In the United States, life insurance policies are so vital that the government replenishes them on a yearly basis. In effect, this has compelled approximately ten million Americans to mutual funds, disability insurance, health insurance, annuity and life insurance from societies.
Aid Association for Lutherans’ organizational change, christened as transformation and renewal, officially started in late 1985 under the super vision and control of Roy Walters together with branch managers who were dubbed associates that provided consultations which facilitate a broad perspective. However, research indicates that the change was initiated way back before December of 1985 (Buller & Schuler, 2006).
