Nursing Research Assignment Paper: Vitamin A Nutrition

Case Study Instructions:

please reply with additional suggestions and thoughts to the following regarding the appropriate vitamin A consumption for a fireman...
Michael is a young man who works as a firefighter, it is easy to assume that he is a healthy individual but it is important while assesing his nutrtiion that we consider several factors. The daily recommended intake for an individual Michael's gender and age is 900μg1 and he reported on the 24 hour food recall a consumption of 920μg. This would lead to the quick assumption that he consumed a sufficient amount of vitamin A. Important factors to consider are wether or not his diet during the 24 hour food recall was typical food choices for him or did he eat foods higher in Vitamin A than usual, perhaps some spinach, sweet potatoes or apricots2 . Did Michael consume the Vitamin A from a supplement, and if so was it a good quality whole food supplement?
Other important factors to consider involve Micahels lifestyle. He has a physically demanding job which leads us to believe that he is physically fit and healthy, but does he work his body to exhaustion or does he get enough rest. Does Michael exercise on his days off? Does he eat a well rounded diet and not just foods that happen to be high in Vitamin A? Does Micahel have any symptoms that would indicate a Vitamin A deficiency such as blindness3 even if it is partial or temporary decrease in vision. These are important aspects to consider.

There is also a need to consider how the sources of vitamin A affect the requirements, since there are difficulties tracking whether the daily intake of nutrients has met the requirements. Vitamin supplements can be synthetic or natural, while the marketing demands have influenced nutritional considerations (NIH, 2016). The synthetic Vitamin supplements tend to have few vitamins, but regardless of whether the source of vitamin A is natural foods or supplements consumption of fats af...
