The Research Question
 The researcher seeks to determine the extent to which PCPs' beliefs about the significance of the patients' responsibility relate to the incidence in which they report participating in partnership-building and collaborative behaviors with patients (Alvarez et al., 2016).
Variables in the study
A variable is a characteristic, a quantity that increases or decreases or can take different forms over time in different situations (Kaur, 2013). When conducting a study, the type of experiment determines the type of variables. There are various types of research variables, including qualitative, discrete, quantitative, dependent, independent variables, among others.
. The dependent variable is used to measure the problem and results in research. An Independent variable is used to measure and describe factors deemed to influence or cause the outcome or problem. Therefore, the independent variable describes the effect the research object has on the dependent variable (Kaur, 2013). The effect is the dependent variable, and the cause is the independent variable. In this study, the author’s variables are:
* The independent variable: care providers’ support for patient activation
To obtain this, the author measures clinicians' beliefs about the responsibilities of patients' in their facility using the CS-PAM model. The patients were required to respond whether they agree or strongly agree with the questions asked relating to their health management. On the other hand, Care providers were to respond to how a patient's health management skill is significant. Their responses are put on a 4-point scale with 1 representing "important," and 4 representing "extremely significant." Using the Rasch method to analyze the responses, higher scores will indicate a positive belief about the significance of patient skills and the management of their health. Therefore, understanding the patients' health management skills and clinician's response to the same is the independent variable.
II. The dependent variable: the care provider’s involvement in chronic illness management support behaviors.
That is to determine the degree to which they are involved in behavior building around patients and their self-management skills. Clinicians should give their responses once they are called upon to provide care for chronic diseases and assess how they will build self-management skills around the patients. Therefore, the variable to be used will include gender, care provider's age, number of years worked at Fair view, and type of PCPs.
Type of Bias Inherent in the Study
Bias is a systematic error in data collection and analysis, usually caused by inappropriate technical methods and procedures (Smith & Noble, 2014). It can be linked to a lack of objectivity. To reduce biases, the researcher should mostly focus on human elements because they cause errors.
