Read "The Impact of Bragdon v. Abbot on Persons affected by Infertility" by Pamela Walker, and, after doing so, respond to the following questions in a 2-3 pages essay. Your responses to each of these questions should be based upon your review of Pamela Walker's paper as well as additional scholarly materials identified in the course of your research.

Reproduction is one of the major life activities especially for those within the reproductive age bracket. Therefore, infertility can be termed as a disability or an impairment of the reproductive system. According to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bragdon vs. Abbot, the court stated that a person without fertility treatment is termed as disabled, therefore, they have the right to fertility treatment and the attempt to be pregnant (Ouelletteet al., 2005). This can be translated to mean that couples who want to have children as part of the normal function especially being in the reproductive age bracket have the right to do so. Accordingly, when a couple cannot bear children, they have every right to seek fertility treatment because it infertility is a treatable medical problem (Ouelletteet al., 2005).
Infertility is termed as a disability because it impairs one of the basic body functions making one not to conceive while other experts argue that infertility is not considered as a disability if there are no signs of sterility. If there is, at least, infertility treatment that can result in pregnancy, then it is not considered a disability because disability is termed as a situation difficult to overcome or something is permanent (Ouelletteet al., 2005).
Not everyone who seeks infertility treatment can be termed as impaired. According to the ADA guidelines, if a person is considered infertile it means there is no fertility treatment that can successfully help them achieve conception (Ouelletteet al., 2005). Therefore, infertility should not be treated as a disability unless a child cannot be produced.
