I have identified the first three phases of data analysis after reading the article by Baptiste (2001). The first phase incorporates defining the research, the second phase includes data classification, and the third phase focuses more on making connections. Baptiste (2001) points out that in the first phase, a researcher should observe, collect, interpret, and convey information when conducting qualitative data analysis. The first phase requires a researcher to decide on the analysis's primary goals. A researcher identifies sufficient and appropriate information and the best technique to help capture, record, interpret, and convey the information. The process is continuous, and it first starts with the early conception of the research and proceeds through obtaining data, excluding the irrelevant data, and forming the write-up.
The second phase consists of the classification of data. The data classifications start in the early stages of deciding the research process and become varied as the researcher continues the data analysis process. As such, a researcher makes important philosophical and ideological decisions. The second data analysis phase comprises tagging and grouping the tagged data. Tagging denotes the process of selecting relevant data from a broad range of material, which helps satisfy the researcher's curiosity and supports the main aim of the research. After tagging and labeling the data, the researcher places data with similar components into the same categories or groups.
