SIR RICHARD BRANSON, CHAIRMAN, VIRGIN GROUP, LTD. CASE STUDY Name: Course: Professor Name: (February 22, 2012) Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, Virgin Group, Ltd. Case Study Outline The Leadership Style of Branson and its effectiveness to the U.S today Richard Branson and Effective Leadership Incorporation of Branson’s Leadership at School or Work The Leadership Style of Branson and its effectiveness to the U.S today Richard Branson, the chaiman and CEO of the Virgin Group has come up with a type of ledership centred on employees. He has embraced transformational leadership model as a style of leadership. Within this style of leadeship, he has empowered his employees to attain a given vision of the company. This has led to the rise in productivity and the morale of the worker. It has also increased utility and the wide proffessional and individual growth of the company. Howerver, he has encountered some challenges with style of leadership in his organization. The challenge has been ensuring that the leadership is passed to the lower group in the whole company. On the other hand, this kind of leadership has had a serious perfect relationship with many variables within the company like job utility, productivity, stress reduction and commitment. Hence, Branson has invested much in the development of management and individual skills within his workers holding various roles in leadership in the company. This has been the major source of success in his company. This model has provided a beneficial framework for him to examine and determine strongholds in the field of leadership (Burns, 1978). Within this transformational model, there are four elements that Branson has put into effect. The first one is a conceptualized influence. This has resulted into him being trusted and respected by his workers. The other element is the fact that motivational inspiration is a thing which makes individuals perfom greater than they would for themselves. Thirdly, he has encouraged his workers to be careful when it comes to assumptions. He has been advising his employees to tackle ancient solutions in a different way. The last element of this style of leadership model is the concept of personal consideration. This has been the most common of the other four elements because it emphasizes on listening to people. It also concerns paying attention to the desires and requirements of the workers. The most essential consideration is that individuals will follow a given leader given they can view him and what is present for them. Therefore, there is the requirement for a leader to walk around and converse with the people they lead. This in turn encourages new ideas, staff motivation and innovation within the company. Branson has been on the forefront in ensuring these takes place within the Virgin Group. He has also tried to pass over small leadership roles to other people within the group. Additionally, passing of some of leadership roles to other people has modified his approach in managing the company. This has made him to be focused on the tasks during intense negotiations or during circumstances whereby the enterprise calls for change in approach (Fox, 2004). The transformational model emphasizes the requirement for good leaders to be dynamic and adapt to their usual style on the basis of business needs at a given time. This should be done while putting at the back of the mind what a particular situation demands. The approach also emphasizes that there is no one perfect method to lead. Rather, the leadership style of a given leader should be related to a given leadership situation or challenge. Additionally, the level of development for the followers contains a big effect on the style chosen. This is because their maturity establishes if the leader ought to be focused on relationship or task. Richard Branson and Effective Leadership A good leader i...
