For this assignment, you will first review the following case study:
A textile manufacturer is closing its North Carolina plant and moving the production of its products to a
developing nation in Southeast Asia. The primary reason for the move is because the lower labor cost will allow the organization to benefit from the new location.
Proponents of the decision laud the move as a means to save the organization by taking advantage of the free market and finding cheaper methods of producing the company's goods.
Opponents of the decision state that a trust existed between the company and the employees and that a breach of trust will occur due to this decision. Additionally, opponents cite recent findings that contractors in the Southeast Asia region, where the company is moving, have been cited for utilizing child labor and failing to provide working conditions equivalent to those in the United States.
Officials in the Southeast Asia region have answered the criticisms of the use of child labor by pointing out that oftentimes children are the only individuals in a family who are capable of working, and to deny them that opportunity would create even greater hardships on the already desperately poor population.

One of the common misconceptions about business and business processes is that ethics and profitability are mutually exclusive. This misconception arises from thinking that business is always amoral since its primary goal is to acquire as many profits as possible. However, this should not be the case since plenty of the biggest corporations today has strived to always commit with their social responsibilities. In the case presented, it could be seen that the textile manufacturer wants to close the plant in order to increase its profitability by looking for human resources that could produce the same amount of work in a small span of time. On the one hand, the issue of child and women labor exists, while on the other the profitability and survival of the company. While most people in the “West” would deem the action of the company as amoral because it could increase the number of child labor, cultural references would show that child workers are ordinary in third world countries. Culturally speaking, plenty of children who work do it not because their families force them, but because they do it in good faith. That is, to better their lives (i.e., to provide for their tuition fees) and help their families (Sural, 2014).
