Recognizing Ethical Issues within Business Seems to be at the Forefront of Ethical Decision Making

Yes, western values should be inflicted on this society. This is because these workers have rights as human beings and so they need to be accorded safe working and living conditions. Nike should bring the concepts of social responsibility to the Indonesian society to ensure that people in this community can feel that the company cares about them. It is important that Nike learns how to balance its profit-making efforts with things that bring benefits to the society at large (Torres et al., 2012). Nike should adopt business ethics such as integrity if it wants to create a good relationship with the workers in this society. Ethics and being socially responsible will make Nike become respected in this society and in this way, it will keep its employees, as well as customers. Without business ethics and social responsibility, conflicts and chaos will keep stemming from the company (Demmerling, 2015).

From the Nike’s standpoint, this is not a fair assessment of their ethical standards. This is evident in the way they try to prevent the researchers from accessing their facilities. Their CEO also refuses to cooperate with them. Some of the ethical issues Nike is facing in the case include poor working conditions for their workers (TeamSweat, 2011). The workers also live in unhygienic and congested living spaces that make them vulnerable to diseases. For example, the houses are situated next to open sewers and this is a violation of human dignity. On top of that, the workers are poorly paid, earning only 1.25 dollars
