Netflix focused on original and authentic content in the video streaming business and created a brand that the customers could identify with, at a time when there was change from mailing DVD rentals to streaming. However, the streaming world is more competitive as there were different players, unlike the delivering DVDs through mail. As such, it became necessary to optimize content for different users including mobile use. Netflix had leveraged data mining to enhance customer to create customer engagement when using the DVD mail delivery service (Chatterjee, Barry & Hopkins, 2016). Data mining also helped in content management since there was focus on offering the latest content and what the customers wanted.
The success of the subscription streaming plan is based on growing customer base and getting the preferred content as increasing the number of subscribers, which in turn increases the revenue. Netflix had built a loyal customer base by focusing on customer preferences and trends as subscribers provided information. This was possible as the customers got the content at a cheaper price than the blockbuster movies. Changing from the mail by delivery approach presented challenges as Netflix increased charges.
