Organizations run through a system of order hierarchical rankings. These ranks confirm the responsibilities of the individuals in the organization, and to whom they are answerable for these responsibilities. The systems of the organization responsibilities are drawn in a chart form that represents these hierarchies. There are different types of charts and they depend mostly on the type in which they are formed. For instance, if the charts are properly figured, drawn and then followed precisely by the stakeholders, the organization runs smoothly and achieves its goals with ease. These study case paper discusses the MacDonald`s organization chart with respect to the book strategic management concepts and cases by Fred R. David. It analyzes this chart and answers some critique questions about it.
The type of the organizational chart illustrated by the MacDonald is the lateral type organizational chart, where there are simple formations of chain of command from the top management to the lower level management. The six second from top level executives are answerable to the top executive who is like the commander in the military (Taylor, 1947). The other two levels connect to the superiors or the ones on the top. For example, the chain of command flows from top smoothly to the bottom level managers.
Though one would give some suggestions on improvements to the chart, these may include; the addition of the lower level executives. In this case, this will enable them to get more information from the supervisors of various areas and the workers who implement the strategies at the grassroots levels. Reduction of the second top level managers in order makes the decision making process easy and fast in order to form the necessary strategies on time.
