ETHICS CASE:
Introduction: Below is a case scenario that involves various Ethics and norms that we might find ourselves victims of one day. This case involves: Mary, who has been laid off in the employment market for a while. She gets a job as an office manager and controller for a privately-held manufacturing company.
Mary considered acquiring that job as a fortune because she had been in the market for a while. The company was working smoothly until a similar group came up with a branch of the same company. They faced a lot of competition, and the company was almost collapsing.
Mary decided to share her company’s information with his friend Tom. This mode of conduct violates the code of ethics in the enterprise. Mary knew it was against the company’s rules, but she still told him. Mary’s company had also gone against the business ethics and lied to the government. This deal was done consciously in order to receive a grant to fund equipment for a company located in a remote area.
This in actual sense there was no suitable market or the chemicals. The superior staff decided to support their company that was collapsing because it would bring more profits and did cover up things that would convince the government. This decision by the senior staff would put a lot of jobs at risk. Especially or the minor employees because if they become discovered the company would closed.
Mary is in a dilemma because she does not know whether to follow her personal ethics or the company’s code of ethics. She is still working in the enterprise that only means that she has violated both ethics.
There are several stakeholders in this company. The company has a president, a vice president, a predecessor (who got fired after Hewson chemical started collapsing), an office manager and controller and finally the junior staff. In the new company that ‘was’ at Arctic view also had its stakeholders.
The government eventually funded for the equipment that were better than their competitor’s equipment. The Ministry of National Development that supervised the government’s projects and ensured that they implemented everything discussed. The main company, that the contract became issued to, in this case, is Hewsen chemical. In this case: Mary can quit her job and use her savings in treating the husband while looking for another job.
Meanwhile, Mary could be doing those part time jobs she was doing while taking care of her daughter. By this, she will be able to escape the situation the company is putting her in.
Mary can also inform her boss, saying that she told Tom about the enterprise’s secret. While the manager takes it lightly, they can come up with alternative methods of funding their original business. This process will become achieved without having to lie to the government on how they are using their funds.
