Business Ethics
BBDE, a health center, contains several employees whose actions do not align with company ethics. The primary character in the ethics issue is Rulan, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Rulan seems to use company money to fund his lifestyle activities and desires. For example, he takes a trip to Europe for a conference, paid for by one of the board members, but instead, he decides to go earlier and tour Europe with his wife (Porter & Woolley, 2012). The company pays for all costs of the tours, including the tickets and other resources that the wife uses. Another incidence is Rulan’s children being part of the staff taking the clients on trips (Porter & Woolley, 2012). Don claims that most of the recent trips the company schedules were not for the children under behavioral correction treatment but were open to anyone willing to pay. These trips had Rulan’s children as staff members.
The board of directors of BBDE has questionable decisions and activities, like their agreement to pay for Rulan’s travel expenses. Once Don consulted his superior regarding the trip to Europe, he responded that the directors approved everything. According to the supervisor, the approval meant that the directors were okay with the resources and plans (Porter & Woolley, 2012). The board of directors also accepts the trips the company schedules, despite the little or no benefit children gain in the facility. Another questionable decision is that by Don. He does not raise his issue regarding the trip and other things he does not like (Porter & Woolley, 2012). Don confronts his supervisor and gets an unfulfilling answer. Instead of furthering the consultation to the directors to inquire, he decides to let it slide. He does not raise his concerns regarding the company trips, and Rulan’s children are part of all unnecessary trips.
Rulan’s actions to use the company’s resources for personal needs affect the company, the employees, and the children who gain from the company’s programs. His actions affect the company by tarnishing the company name (Giorgini et al., 2015). If the general public, the county government, or Medicaid realize that Rulan uses the company’s resources, they will end the funding and lose clients. Rulan’s actions affect the employees by placing them in a situation that requires making difficult decisions. The employees struggle with raising the issue and risk losing their jobs or maintaining silence and living with the guilt. Also, Rulan’s actions affect the employees by making them do their work incompletely. For example, Jamie cannot fully account for Rulan’s trip because Rulan hid information regarding the same.
Don’s actions and decisions affect the company and his career because they allow the possibility of getting both names tarnished. If the company faces the consequences of Rulan’s actions, it will lose credibility...
