Date of Submission
Different scholars hold different opinions on the benefits and shortcomings of globalization. This fact can be supported by reviewing a publication, by Cusimano (2011), titled "Beyond Sovereignty issues for a global agenda." Crucial to the discussion is the fact that the author defines globalization as the interdependent and fast spread of open economy, open society, and open technological infrastructures. Further, the author defines a sovereign country as a globally distinguished entity of political authority around specified borders. The book discusses global issues such as poverty, terrorism, and technology. Additionally, the author discusses how topics such as intergovernmental organizations, nongovernmental organizations, multinational corporations, terrorism, international crime, and religion relate to globalization and sovereignty. It is notable that the book discusses globalization, but unlike most publications, the author relates theoretical and practical aspects of globalization effectively.[Maryann, Cusimano L. The book introduces the subject of globalization by defining the problems and benefits of globalization. The author also reveals that intergovernmental organizations play a crucial role in solving globalization issues, but they must reform and meet the changing global pressures. Reviewing the book also reveals that non-governmental organizations have a different perspective of globalization from states. As a result, they pressure sovereign, which opposes the definition of sovereignty. On the subject of multinational corporations and globalization, it is clear that they promote the negative effects of globalization, but they could also be the solution to the problems. It is also notable the book reveals that terrorists use globalization for their benefit and suggest using different strategies as solution to different terrorist threats. Additionally, the author argues that, like terrorists, criminals use the global arena to facilitate their activities. Critical to the review is the fact that Cusimano (2011) argues that religion also influences world politics in both directions (both positively and negatively).[Maryann, Cusimano L. Beyond Sovereignty: Issues for a Global Agenda. Boston, NY: Wadsworth, 2011. pp. 86.] [Maryann, Cusimano L. Beyond Sovereignty: Issues for a Global Agenda. Boston, NY: Wadsworth, 2011. pp. 207.]
It is crucial to highlight that the book also draws attention to the subject of sovereignty and people on the move. As evidence, the author ...
