In the article scholarship Boy, Richard Rodriguez is caught up between how to balance his life and the academic world. Having come from an uneducated family, he had the thirst to acquire more knowledge. Richard seeks out new and better ways of studying. He spent more time reading books instead of playing with his friends or spending time with his family. When he stumbles upon Hoggart's definition of scholarship boy, he discovers himself, but in a different way.
