Half Nelson Movie Analysis
The movie Half Nelson, by Ryan Fleck, is remarkably written and directed, which in turn makes it easy for the viewer to relate to most of the events. The main problem expressed by the movie is on human flaws, how is it possible for an individual to care about other people beyond themselves, despite themselves? Dan, a high school teacher, is addicted to cocaine and engages in irresponsible and reckless behavior. His behavior is evidenced by his passing out at the restroom after sniffing cocaine. However, when in school, Dan is much more charismatic and cares more about his student’s well being. This is evidenced by his eagerness to help Drey, a student in his basketball team, on several occasions such as when he confronted Frank after he tried to force Drey to deliver drugs (Fleck).
