The book Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society, and Neurosexism Create Difference written by Cordelia Fine in 2010 focuses on analyzing the concept that men and women are hardwired with varying interests. The author highlights numerous claimed evidence of the existence of implicit biological variations between the minds of men and women. Fine writes the book in a manner that allows the reader to challenge their own stereotypes concerning gender. Towards the end of the book, she hopes that all people can comprehend that there are no mind-based essential differences between men and women. The author confines her research to males and females assigned these genders at birth, and as such, there is no clear conversation concerning transgender individuals.
Fine divides the book into three sections, whereby in the first parts, it analyzes the manner that the society utilizes sciences to justify sexism. In the second part, Neurosexism, Fine directly challenges studies that support sex differences. In the final section, which focuses on recycling gender, the author highlights the argument that children grow up in gendered societies and concludes that there is no justification of utilizing the term gender-neutral parenting.
The author in the first part of the book effectively highlights the manner that when the society teaches a child to believe they are a man or a woman, then that is what they would honestly believe. In the second part, Fine adequately analyzes various research that is based on cultural assumptions concerning gender differences. She argues that through manipulating the existing dynamics, this can change the manner that men and women perceive their gender-assigned abilities.
