The article News from Nowhere, by William Morris is mainly a political novel that focuses primarily on explaining the changes that occurred following a change from the Victoria times to a socialist form of society. While the article was written in 1980 by William, the story is narrated by the author’s guest, who had woken up after attending a socialist league meeting. As the guest wakes up, he is surprised to find himself in a changing society classified as the Utopian future world in which socialism had taken place. The book review will therefore focus on the nature of the utopian/dystopia society that William Guest lived in while comparing it with the experiences of the Victorian society in which Morris lived. 
The utopian society lacked most of the features experienced in the Victorian community in which Morris grew up. As seen from the reading, one of the significant characteristics of the utopian society, as narrated by the guest, was the common ownership of resources, especially the means of production (Morris 1980, p. 3). We are told society was seamless mainly because the people focused on investment in the natural world. The financial systems in this society were centralized to ensure that everyone in the community benefited. With a centralized financial system, no specific person would end up accumulating more wealth while others anguished in poverty. 
The utopian society was characterized by the centralization of social institutions, such as classes, jails, and courts. The centralization of these institutions was aimed at ensuring everyone in the society is treated equally and that all people have access to available opportunities. As seen from the readings, the change in society was abrupt based on the guest’s narration. After the meeting, we are told that the narrator fell asleep and woke up feeling relaxed. As he went to the river for a swim, he was surprised to discover that the industrial buildings had already been transformed into a pastoral landscape (Morris 1980, p.103).
